Thank you
Thank you for accepting my registration. My boating background includes 50+ years of sailing off the beach dinghy’s and catamarans, trailer sailers both mono’s and tri’s, a couple of OB powered offshore fishing boats 5-6m, a solo circumnavigation of Australia 2011 in my then Seawind catamaran. I obtained my Yachtmasters certification in 1985 and have done some coastal deliveries of yachts and power catamarans for friends up and down the Queensland and NSW coasts. I’m interested in transitioning to a 12m displacement power catamaran for a comfortable afternoon to my life cruising and exploring the bays and rivers of Australia’s east coast. Darkside’s post has prompted my registration.

Welcome to TF. Taking a bit of a punt here, but the Yachtmaster qually caught my attention, because I also gained that about the same time, but in Napier, NZ. I don't think that there is a direct equivalent here in Aus, but could be mistaken..? So, like Darkside and myself, am I right that you did quite a bit of your boating in NZ, and does this pic look familiar..?

Thank you all for the welcome. Peter B, I did my YM 40 years ago with the Mooloolaba School of Navigation. It is an AYF qualification, the theory lessons were done at night at TAFE in Nambour and we were very fortunate to have an ex Royal Navy Captain as our teacher. The practical element was done offshore from Mooloolaba. I gained my sea miles on private vessels and volunteering as crew/watch leader on South Passage. A great memory was Brisbane to Sydney and return including participating in the Tall Ships race also Brisbane to Gladstone yacht race and Qld coastal runs. I am on my way to Tasmania for the Wooden Boat Festival and a months Tassie touring. If I remember when I return I’ll post a photo of my AYF Yachtmasters certificate which is a Log Book endorsement. Before I did my solo voyage around Australia I completed the updated Safety and Radio licensing courses with Gerry Fitzgerald at Manly. This link https://learn2sail.com.au/ provides up to date advice on the current AYF certifications which are now RYA approved and internationally accepted I believe. Regrettably I have not yet visited NZ but it is on my short range radar particularly after reading Darkside’s posts of his circumnavigation. BM.

Welcome Aboard. You might benefit from getting in touch via the PM (private message) system with Kit L on TF, who acquired a power catamaran after 2 power monohulls.

Aha - thanks for clarifying. I did the theory at the TAFE equivalent of Polytech at Clive near Napier. It was taken by one of the current Napier Port Pilots. Very interesting captain originally from Holland.
Yes, do make a point of visiting NZ. You would not regret it for sure. Darkside's voyage has indeed been interesting.
Cheers,
