Yea, that new paint looks great, much better. I never sailed on this one except for a "day on the Bay" cruise during fleet week. I sailed on the old "steamer"! I saw she was docked at the old Mare Island yard a few years ago. Do you know if she is still there? By the way, your boat looks great, better than new :-)
I was in that lucky class that got to sail on both, the steam turbine for my freshman year and the medium speed diesel my senior year.

This is all that is left of the steam turbine, sad, some great divisional artwork over the years on those bulkheads.

Remember the HAM radio room aft of the bridge on the steam Bear? My freshman year I was the only licensed HAM, so I ran a lot of phone patches.

Wow, so sad to see my old TSGB sitting there with one little piece left. That would be cool to have that in our back yard :-) did they just scrap her, would have loved to go get some of that divisional art and other things off her before they cut her up! Where is that scrap yard/bow?
That room was one of our favorite places to hide out. It was one of the few places that had AC if I recall.

Your memory is good. If my memory serves me, most of the ship was DC. We got AC power from (2) containers that has AC gen sets. This allowed for air conditioning on the bridge, some of the staterooms (for instructors) and the radio room.

On the current TSGB, not only does the engine control room have AC, but the entire engine room.

I don't know when or where the steam turbine TSGB was scrapped, someone had emailed me the picture of the bow.
