Newbie needs info

Hello, I'm a newbie to trawlers. I have owned a couple of sportfish boats both were 38' twin diesels. I had a 1981 and 1986 Bertrams.

I have bareboat chartered a 42' Grand Banks in St. Thomas in 1999 & 2000 - we had a blast each year.

I am getting interested in maybe buying a trawler so I wanted to pick the minds of some experienced yachtsmen.

My first question is which brand holds its value the best?

Second, which brand is the most maintenance friendly?

I realize that opinions will vary and that's o.k. I would just like to hear from all owners both past and present.

Assuming you are looking for a vessel in the 40ft range, give or take, and the amount you plan to spend, the focus should not be about "resale" value but rather about condition and how well cared-for the vessel has been by previous owners. Trawlers in this price range will have a number of years on them and have largely got to the point where it is about condition not brand. Having said that, a recognizable name can only help when it comes time to sell again.
