I have just joined Trawler Forum. I am a retired heavy equipment operator that purchased a Ranger Tug R27 4 years ago. It's been a great experience boating onboard the R27. I trailered it to Lake Huron a few years ago, spent a summer on the Great Lakes & St. Lawrence River cruising as far as Montreal.

I towed the R27 back to BC & cruised the Canadian Gulf Islands & Desolation Sound. Last October I circumnavigated Vancouver Island.

Looking forward to following others on Trawler Forum posts.

Welcome. Hopefully we'll be following you a bit!

I really like the idea of a trailerable trawler, and have met a bunch of folks traveling far and wide in their Ranger Tugs.

The tug line of boats are a great PNW, coastal BC and Alaska cruising vessel. I tend to stay away from the southern area of Desolation Sound in the summer just because of the crowds. Although I think this summer will still be closed off to Americans so the area may not be as crowded as a regular season.

I think trailering your boat to various areas then cruising is brilliant.

How did you find going down the west coast of Vancouver Island. (time frame?)

Circumnavigation of Vancouver Island in my R27 Ranger Tug

Just re reading my initial post & was incorrect on the date I completed the circumnavigation of Vancouver Island. It was late May & I spent 3 weeks to go around Vancouver Island, stopping for several days in some communities. A quick recap as follows: Nanaimo to Richmond BC. Departed Richmond to Victoria.
Victoria to Sooke, then travelled to Port Renfrew....next stop Port Alberni for a few days & fuel.
Weather was great....next stop Bamfield, (stopped for a day) then up the West Coast past Ucluelet & Tofino to Port Alice.
Left Port Alice for Quatsino Sound, cruised past Winter Harbour around top of Vancouver Island then travelled to Port Hardy for a 4 day visit & Fuel.
Worked my way back down the inside Passage to Campbell River, then Nanaimo & finally back to Richmond.
The RangerTug R27 is fuel efficient & I planned about 300 miles between fuel fills.
Weather held for the leisurely trip cruising & sight seeing.

I have a picture looking out my front window of the CN tower in Toronto when cruising Lake Ontario & another photo of the Space Needle from my wheel house when I did a run to Seattle.

Your circumnavigation of Van Island sounds great. When you started out, Nanaimo to Richmond I was thinking - what to heck? Then realized you were bouncing over to Victoria from the land of many Chinese restaurants.

I love living on the Island, but.................. the quality of Asian restaurants mid-Island sucks.
