Universal 39' Europa Trawler
Ahoy Mateys,

A new member here from the San Francisco area. We just acquired a 40' Taiwan-made Europa Trawler ca. 1979, our third boat and first trawler. It hailed previously from the Seattle-Tacoma area. Avast! Currently we're knee deep in refitting and problem solving on it and hoping to come up for air soon. It's really a nice specimen but needs a little love.

Between the survey and purchase and first few days on the boat we found a lot of things desperately needing attention, from raw sewage spilling over from broken tank fittings into the bilge – to loads of improper previous electrical, plumbing and ventilation installation. Otherwise very sound. So much for the value of the surveyor...

- installed new fresh water head and hoses
- getting rid of the leaking y-valve and sealing the discharge bung
- repair blown fittings, extra venting and sensors for the holding tank
- repiping A/C ventilation and updating electrical to remove home depot parts
- securing and looming loose electrical wiring and hoses lying in the bilge
- fixing spaghetti mess of abandoned wires hidden behind the panel
- refinishing interior teak and countertops and general cleanup

In 40 years a lot of kooky things can be done to an otherwise nice Trawler. Look forward to following the forums and learning from all of you great people. Hope to see some of you out on the water...

P.S., the boat is named after the Voyager spacecraft - I come from a family of ex-JPL engineers that were responsible for designing these ships and I grew up following their travels. Thought it would be a fitting name for a trawler.

"THE M/V VOYAGER is named in honor of two vessels that started their travels during the period from 1976-1982, and are still operating in deep interstellar space today – launched on August 20 and September 5, 1977 - the twin craft have traveled further than anyone, or anything, in history".

Cool story about the Voyager. Ex-class mate, last name; Warfle. We called him Warfdog. :)

I like the name, I like the tribute, I like space probes, I like trawlers, I even like San Francisco. You’re doing a great job! Welcome aboard, and shiver me timbers.

Don`t you wish, with a boat others have been molesting for 40 years, there was a "Restore Factory Settings" button you could press.
Hope it goes well, sound like you are making lots of progress.
