Hi,
Happy to be joining from Powell River, BC near Desolation Sound. We just recently purchased our dream retirement boat a 1981 35’ Cheoy Lee Trawler with twin 80hp Ford Lehman diesels.
I am fairly tall and a bit of a tight squeeze through the small hatch to service the twin engines. Would like to modify the floor with some bigger access hatches.
Has anyone done these modifications.
Thank you
Richard

Richard, welcome aboard. We have a Cheoy Lee 40, and it has a small engine room hatch forward in the way of the kitchen / passage to the forward cabin, and 4 hatches almost the full width of the saloon which prop open for more headtoom than the 5' which the engine room provides. There are heavy cross beams and longitudinal stringers supporting the hatches. The PO installed gas charged hatch lifts from a car, and metal rod security braces to keep them from falling on me.
You may have these or you could make them.
Ours is a 1986 40' LRC
