But where it will help you is if you want to check an area. Slow to an idle and look and get the picture. We've used it to check anchorages and marinas and to get a better reading on a shoal.

That was the point I was making. It's not a cruise speed tool.

Unless in much deeper water. Theoretically would help spot containers at sea, but having never seen a container at sea, I have no idea.

I know, it sounds , well, too good to be. I gotta say, this design intrigues me
if this is the case. Better than 4 MPG sounds pretty awesome for a 58' trawler.

I have no bias against jet drives, we are currently running almost 70 jet drives on our various boats, with 13 more sitting in crates in the shop to be installed on new boats this winter. I was mostly wondering what feature(s) of the jet drive the OP thought were important enough to go that route. He posted that he was concerned with shallow water operation, and that is a very valid reason to look at jets.
