Greetings All,

I have spent a few months reading the forums I would like to join the TF crew.

After many years boating with a trailer boat last year we decided to take the plunge and get into constantly wet boating.

My Vessel is not the classic trawler design but its roots are commercial in nature. Built in 1995 as Cray Boat working the southern ocean of South Australia for the first 10 years of life. In 2006 she was converted by the then owner with extended cab, generator, desalination unit, toilet system etc. She has changed hands a couple of times mostly due to marital distress. One day while heading out in our little boat I spotted a for sale sign and as they say the rest is history.

Now I understand the true meaning of Boat = Blow out another Thousand...

Currently it has a Iveco (Fiat FPT) 18L V8 (8281 SRM) pushing it along until recently. It has dropped a valve and done at least a little or big end. Have not pulled it yet to confirm.

I am planning on doing a loop around Australia so was intending to re power, this has accelerated the plans.

My back ground is electronics and networking so i have decide to update to modern computer controlled donk. I have selected a Iveco C13 to replace it. Inline 6 13L.

I will have a bunch of idea and questions I will put to the group as the fit out progresses.

Regards

Alex

Welcome aboard Alex. A converted cray/lobster boat must make a good cruiser, plenty would have worked in tough WA offshore conditions.
Some of us are glad having engines not electronically controlled. But with your skills you should be fine.
One "RT Firefly", an esteemed member, has dibs (that should puzzle our US friends)on the generic "Greetings". You may be hearing from him.

Welcome aboard!
Are Iveco engines common down there?

Welcome aboard TF
You started out admirably by posting pictures... always appreciated.
Is there a tale about the name Yarradeen?

Welcome, Alex, and congrats on your robust-looking cruiser. Nice photos! Bit of a shame about that big V-8 swallowing a valve. At least it looks like the engine shouldn't be too difficult to snatch out.

Here's hoping Yarradeen's episodes of marital distress are all now history!

Nice big boat. Make a great dive boat with all that open aft deck space.
Welcome aboard. Let us know how the re-engine project goes and I would love to hear of an Australian circumnavigation with pics.

Yarradeen we believe is a old native name local to the area the boat worked in the spencer gulf. Place now called Port Broughton. But not confirmed more speculation.

Iveco are quite common in the commercial world particularly with vessels of my boats age.

Thanks all
