Great Looper

Bob and his wife Mavis spent 6 years boating on the St Lawrence River out of Brockville, Ontario in the 1970s. Moving to Nashville, TN in the late 70's we gave up boating until 1999. We bought a 1981 Grand Banks Classic 36 and have enjoyed it ever since. Our trawler, Katy Leigh, is kept at Kenlake Marina on the Tennessee River. In 2005 we completed America's Great Loop (circumnavigating Eastern North America); the Tennessee River in 2006, and the Cumberland River in 2007. We also own a Nautica RIB (see video). I speak about the Great Loop at TrawlerFest once or twice per year. I blog frequently about our boating and RV adventures. Prior to starting my company Duthie Learning in 1989, I worked 27 years with GTE/Verizon and Northern Telecom in R&D, product management, business development, and general management.

Welcome aboard. We sailed Kentucky lake for a few years before heading south. We plan on starting the Loop in April 2014 from Marathon. It sounds like a lot of fun except for the 145 locks.

The locks are all part of the adventure. They are all different, and many offer places to tie up for the night. You also get to know people when you have to wait for the locks.

Currently on Pickwick lake just off the TN river, sitting on the back deck watching the evening lightning show and feeling the rain drops cool the humidity.

We are also heading south after the AGLA rendeavous in October and will be heading north from FL in the spring - all going to plan.

i agree the locks are fun except in the strong winds !!!

I hope to see you at the AGLCA rendezvous. Mavis and I have registered. We will cruise to Chattanooga from our marina on Kentucky Lake and attend the rendezvous on the way back.

I plan to do the loop as soon as I retire in 6 years. Watched your CD on the loop last year as I sat for a week in the dark during hurricane Sandy. Welcome

islandtimecruiser when are you planning on starting the loop? We plan on leaving Tavernier around April 2014. I love the Keys, but can't wait to leave. We have been in one spot too long.

We may leave Cape Coral in March and spend some time on Fl East Coast (Stuart to Jax.). We are ready for a change of scenery.

Gina, Are you going through Lake Okeechobee or around through the Keys? We bought our boat up close to where you are (Fort Meyers Shores). It was a fun trip down to the Keys.

We'll probably go thru Lake O. We made the trip several time through Lake O (including last year making the "South Florida Loop". At this point, we aren't planning to go via the Keys; plans could change however. We've made the trip to the Keys from Cape Coral via Gulf of Mexico 6-8 times.
