This might be the wrong forum but, looking for canal locks on the Champlain Canal that allow tent camping. The NYS state gives phone numbers, but not much more information. I was planning on bicycle touring from Waterford NY all along the Champlain Valley Trail all the way to the US/Canada border and camp most of the way. Any info appreciated.

Thanks

I went through the canal in both direction this summer, very scenic. My recollection is that there are some places to camp. I don't remember which locks. A quick look on Google maps in satellite view will show you the locks and grassy areas. Pick one you think will work and call them.

You may also be able to get information from this website:

I looked at the NYS Canals page and all they have is the phone numbers, no info at all ref. camping. If you see find anything else, please advise.
Thanks for the assist

Looks like that the advertised lock camping is only along the Erie incl. Waterford.. However:

“Camping at other Canal Corporation locks may be allowed on a case-by-case basis. Camping at these non-designated sites is limited to a maximum of four tents per night. Campers must contact the lock operator in advance to determine if camping is permissible and where to set up. “

As Ted said check Google maps ( and Google Earth) at each lock to explore potential areas. Then check with appropriate lock tenders to confirm.
I would also check adjacent to town docking facilities, lock walls, parks, etc
