Today for about 2 hours we experienced here in Qatar the worst sandstorm I've ever seen in over 8 years. At one point it was a whiteout with about 20ft visibility. Was literally like something from a movie - a wall of sandblasting grit just tearing the paint off the front of the car.

Luckily I was not out on my boat but the thought sent shivers down my spine. I doubt a marine radar could even penetrate it because it was solid gravel. Any of you others ever spent time in the Middle East and have experienced this? How about solid snow storms?

I have made several trips to the Sudan, they are called Habbubs there I was in a couple one very dense, one not bad. Also a rainstorm in a part of Sudan that only gets a few inches of rain a year, it was impressive to see the flooding it caused. if you ever get a chance to visit there, DON'T.

Go to the Phoenix area some time and enjoy one of their Haboobs (same type of storm, different spelling). The visibility is the same, the feelings of being in movie sare the same.

It's one of those wonderful things you watch from inside the house.

GFC I misspelled it, Haboob is correct, whether Phoenix or Sudan.

Reminds me of reasons why to NOT go to areas where Haboobs Habituate!
