Saw Molly Tuttle play with Old Crow Medicine Show last night at a fully vaccinated outdoor concert in Chattanooga. Just amazing talent and what a joy to hear live music again. This is one of the songs they performed (from a different show).

If you love Simon and Garfunkel

Happy 80th Birthday Paul

Take some time to listen Hey Schoolgirl of Tom and Jerry; not the cartoon type but the duet; it was what Paul Simon and Artie (don’t say Art) Garfunkel sounded like years before they became Simon and Garfunkel; Tom for Garfunkel and Jerry for Simon were the pseudonym they used when the two 15-years-old classmate friends performed together while attending Parsons Junior High School in NYC;

There are many more of their first recordings-solo and duo-from their earliest days under various monikers but this one is my favorite, it’s pretty cool; They say that Paul Simon’s father played the bass guitar in this song;

Hey Schoolgirl? Whoa, next we`ll explore what "me and Julio" were doing "down by the schoolyard" which almost put them in a "house of detention".
Following the theme, "Hey Nineteen" by Steely Dan (updated video):

Funny, I've loved that song since my tweenage years when it came out, but have never seen any video until now.

For obvious reasons it was a popular song at the roller skating rink

I'm a huge fan of Steely Dan but that video is just downright strange. I think you must need some medical marijuana to understand it.

Yes,strange if not a tad creepy. Might reflect the lament in the lyrics, not that Steely Dan lyrics ever made much sense. Alternative was a static pic of the album cover, so...

Off the same album, "Glamour Profession" is another fine example, and a good track too:

A few years ago I went to see them at show and this weird old man walked on stage at the beginning and I thought "someone needs to escort that strange looking homeless man off the stage". Turns it it was just Donald Fagan. Some people don't age so well. It was a great concert despite the advanced age of the founders of the band.
Quite a bit of medicinal marijuana there IIRC.

A pathologist friend attending a conference in New Orleans discovered Steely Dan were playing,very lucky coincidence. Fagen made 2 solo albums I know, Nightfly, and the less known "Kamerkiriad",about a steam powered 10 cyl car with a Balinese veg garden in the back. Its "Snowbound" track features the immortal words:"Snowbound! Let`s sleep in today. Wake me up, when the wolves come out to play". Priceless!

RIP Jay Black, who died Friday at 82.

Jay and the Americans were a guilty pleasure back in the day. The songs were what they were, but what a voice!

Several of the posts above were about Steely Dan. Are you aware that the two
founding members played in Jay and the Americans' touring band in earlier days?

Jay Black dubbed Becker and Fagen: "the Manson and Starkweather of rock'n'roll",
referring to cult leader Charles Manson and spree killer Charles Starkweather.

Did not know that. Bit of a shift for them musically, I bet. I’m always fascinated by the level of cross-pollination going on back then. Thanks for that bit of lore.

What was the reason for Black calling them that? Seems like a pretty nasty comparison to me.

I actually know (or think I know) the answer to that. They had a reputation at the time of being antisocial smart asses. The reason they joined the band in the first place was to make a little money as musicians because their attempts as a songwriting duo to sell their songs to other artists was failing as a venture - many rejected their songs as too dark, and too clever for rock and roll - probably contributing to their bad attitudes.

"How Long Has This Been Going On" - ACE 1974

Heard this played again and checked it out. Surprise,written in 1928 by George and Ira Gershwin, sure doesn`t sound like it. Worth a listen.

, See above, here`s the real George and Ira Gershwin song "How Long Has This Been Going On" performed by Carly Simon. Two good songs for the price of one?

How about some really nicely done Christmas music? Hetty Loxston usually sings in Italian with the Hetty and the Jazzato band. Beautiful woman with a beautiful voice.

Colibri by Incognito at Java Jazz Festival 2008

Incognito really seem to enjoy doing it, fans love it live. Surprise,it`s written by Stevie Wonder. Female lead Maysa is in good form.
