There was a fatal case in Arizona when we lived there in the late 2000’s. Teenager boy playing in a lake in shallows, stirred up the mud and got water up his nose. Fatal within a week. Our family headed up to the mountain streams to cool off after learning of that risk! Also, Lake Pleasant and similar warm reservoirs were so filled with yahoos in overpowered water craft, if the amoeba didn’t get you, the tattooed yahoos would!
