Another question with regards to slabilization

I see a great many of these cruising boats have active fin stabilization —it looks great and seems to work very well. A few however have gyro’s. I have heard rumors about gyros tearing stringers out of boats (retro-fitted boats previously without stabilization). I have also heard that gyros are very expensive to maintain.
Can anyone speak to both or either of these rumors? It seems the fins might be a better solution, save when you are on the hook. Then maybe flopper stoppers would accomplish the stabilization if needed vs a gyro.
What does anyone know about gyro’s and cruising?
Thanks
