Nut welded to Valve Cover - Lehman 120-6

Why is there a nut welded to my Lehman 120 valve cover, and all the valve covers in other 120 pictures I’ve seen?

Here between the vent and the oil cap

Perhaps for a lifting eye for remove/install of the cover? But I'd be surprised if it's that heavy.


Or maybe just a mounting point to secure wires and hoses, and maybe only for a truck application?

none on my 120..... but my 120 has a chrome cover after a rebuild.

As stated above the nut is probably there for another application. Farm equipment or the like. I am guess that the “chrome” valve cover was not used on many pieces of farm equipment.

It gives the engine more nuts for getting through the slop. :lol:




I'm just teasing you. I read somewhere that the nut was there to hold a bracket for optional accessories. It was probably when the engine was used in the agricultural field. Not your's specifically just that run of engines.
