Electric drum windlass

I was reading the long windlass thread and noticed that there was mention of an electric drum windlass out there.

*

Our new boat has a Horizon windlass that works fine, but dumps the all chain rode into a compartment under the V Berth (No drain, no water proofing and not good to have steel against the aluminum hull...

*

Ideally we would either fix up a proper fiberglass chain locker with drain or have the rode stored on a drum.

*

I have seen a few after googling, Streesfree, Absolute and Muir manufacture electric drum windlasses.* I haven't seen a spec sheet that addresses an all chain rode, but I would like to store the 225' of 1/4" hitest at least...

*

Any ideas?

RE: Electric drum windlass

Howard,

They make much better looking ones than this and they are $3000 or so but they do make some in electric versions. I like to keep my rode on deck and this is the best way to do it.

I really am not concerned about appearance..

Do you know who makes the one in the picture?

Electric drum windlass

Here's the best sources I know of.*

http://www.kinematicsmarine.com/anchor_winches.nxg

http://www.kolstrand.com/anchor-winc...r-winches.html

Also I have this hydraulic drum winch I will sell you for $500. You'd need to be a do it yourselfer to convert it to electric or you could install a pump on your engine like an alternator ..belt driven w an electric clutch and just rebuild the hyd motor on the winch. Hydraulic is best.

RC Plath in Portland, OR makes electrical power drum winches.* It takes some time to download their product catalog.
