Which type of circuit breaker?

My house batteries are each connected via a 50 amp thermal circuit breaker of uncertain age. I intend to replace both. Thermal breakers, at $60 each, are roughly twice the price of conventional breakers. Are they worth the extra and why? Edit: Leave aside the fact that one is self-mounting and the other requires a housing; I can get around that.
