Radar Woes

I have a Furuno open array radar that dies after about 5 minutes of operation. Operation starts up normally with the green power light lit on the control/power box. All of a sudden, the monitor goes blank, the radar stops revolving and the green power light goes off.
No fuses or breakers blow, and the unit can be turned on again right away, but will, once again, die after 5 minutes.
Any suggestions?

If you have a good volt meter and know how to use it I would check the input voltage to the radar. Is it 12.6-13.8 but drops below 11.0 volts when turned on? Possible undersized wire or corroded connection. If it has a removable connector between the display and the antenna then also check that for any damaged or corroded pins If this checks out then the installation is probably good and a call to Furuno or a local Furuno authorized agents would be in order.

Good luck,

Dave

I'm with Skipperdude. Call Furuno in Camas, WA. Great customer service.

I am guessing it's the motor that turns the magnetron. I have had 2 Furunos, and each one burned out a motor. Plus several at our marina.
But yes call Furuno or a repair facility and get their input.
If you have to replace the motor, sit down when you ask the price.
