My Simrad AP 25 screen looks like it is burnt, the system works but the screen has that burnt look. Is it only the protective/waterproof outside screen (that's what it looks like) and if I remove it will I be able to see the screen and info again?

Doesn't seem likely.
An additional problem is that Simrad doesn't support past products the day after they introduce a new one, throwing away spare parts. As least that is what they did with my three year old radar, but you might ask if a new display head is available.
