PC Monitor for Pilothouse

Our old monitor ( has expired so am looking for:

> Bright - PH has lots of windows. Old monitor had no brightness specification but was not easily readable on sunny days.
> Small 20-24”
> VESA mount
> Reasonable price
> Mainly for Coastal Explorer with some MS Office use

Current choice is an Asus 24” gaming model with 350 cd/m2 brightness, $245. Don’t play games but gaming monitors seem to be brighter than home/office models. I don’t think a high end bulletproof or daylight readable monitor is really needed.

Anyone have experience with similar monitors? Thanks for any input.

No suggestions for monitors but glasses with good polarized lens may help by cutting the reflections.

I had the pleasure of admiring your boat, Stella, in Mobile.

350 nits (cd/m2) is just a standard indoor monitor spec. You'll want 800-1000 nits in a very bright environment, up to 2000 nits in direct sunlight.

300 nits works just fine in a pilothouse environment. I had 3 17inchers in my old Hatteras.

Heck, the 300 nit matte screen 19 incher up on the shaded flying bridge , on a very adjustable RAM mount worked great too.
