I have an octopus helm drive for my cable steered outboard. (It’s an Albin25). What would be the simplest, least expensive way to have the octopus helm simply hold a compass heading? What components do I need? Fluxgate compass? Some other interface? I will be using an iPad pro with external GPS for navigation.

I used a SiTex SP 110 with an Octopus drive on a Fortier 26. Worked well. No additional compass or other parts were needed. Held a course on its own or steered to waypoint via NMEA 0183 info provided by the Garmin.

Definitely the easiest way to go would be to buy any autopilot system ,sans the drive. As mentioned above, Sitex offers a good system with no drive. Raymarine has systems too.
