Dual station Morse controls - how are cables run?

Re-assembling the Morse Control cables that have been apart for a while. My 1970 W36 has an upper/flybridge helm and a lower/salon helm. These are traditional Morse 2-knob controls for my single-engine boat. How are the cables connected between the helm stations connected? Guessing there are a couple ways it can be done - some sort of Y-reduction fitting; or maybe the upper helm cables connect to the lower helm linkage, then a single cable to the engine/gear.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance - Peter

Peter, yes to the latter. The controls from the upper helm connect to the controls at the pilot house. Then the other cable runs to the transmission and throttle.

The adjustment that takes a few minutes to figure out is how far out from the pivot point the connections have to be.

You want both sets of controls to move the same so the cable connecting upper and lower should be identical.

The connections for the transmission and the throttle have to be played with so that the amount of movement in the controls conform to the amount of movement in the engine room.

If you don’t get it right the first time, you are not alone.

Also, yes to the former. As they say, whatever floats your boat.

Instructions are online, example here http://www.seastarsolutions.com/wp-c...rev-12-091.pdf

on our particular setup, each clutch & throttle runs directly to the engine, for a total of 4 cables to the engine. 2 clutch & 2 fuel. I guess it gives the system a redundancy factor but honestly, I wouldn't have an issue if it were connected with one control as a slave and the other as the lead. The current setup just happens to be the way the boat was rigged when we got it, I'm assuming by the builder.

John - thanks for the Teleflex PDF. Invaluable.

Both Shawn and John - according to the PDF, looks like you are both right. John has "tandem" configuration; Shawn has "parallel" configuration.

Many thanks -
