I was trying to connect my GPS puck to the OpenCPN software. The instructions that I have are for the older version. The GPS works because I check it against two others but I am unable to activate it to the chart. I am using an older laptop for this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

If opencpn doesn’t see the gps input, it is most likely a driver issue. Reload the drivers from the gps and try again.

I just put my FPS puck into the Mac Mini hosting OpenCpn and it works.

The data enters OpenCPN as NMEA-0183 data via a virtual com port. Figure out which com port it is, e.g COM1, COM2, COM3, etc and add and then enable it in OpenCPN. It'll be a different port than your other devices.

If you have something like hyperterminal, you can poke at com ports until you see the NMEA data scrolling by, or you can look in the programs that work to see what they are uaing, or you can just add and enable them in OpenCPN until you see it the data in the NMEA debug window or it starts working.
