Anyone know if the Pass has enough depth to allow a vessel with a 5’ draft to navigate? I know navionics shows adequate depth but have heard they have not maintained the channel. Thanks

There are several fairly recent comments posted on Active Captain which refer to shoaling and groundings. Try calling one of the tow companies in Appalachicola or Carabelle for latest information.

We have always used the pass at Dog Island, 15 nm east of Government Pass when crossing to/from Tampa Bay or Clearwater. Deep, wide and well marked. Good anchorage just east of the channel.

Last time I used it was dead calm and I followed a shrimp boat through. I actually thought the guy was turning around, he made so many turns.

Dog Island pass is way easier.
