I sent Richard a message and asked him if he still thinks it is 6 more days/nights. Also asked if Julie got home OK and told him that all of us on TF are traveling with him. His reply.....
Yes to all three.

Is he still planning a stop over in A Coruna and other ports? Or is he planning a non-stop to Ireland?

I asked Richard about where he planned on stopping and what he thought of the front that he will hit late in the week and if he thought he would beat it. Here is his reply.
I'm going to meet another kk in Castletownbere.
It'll be nice to have someone show me the ropes.
Then I'll make it around the south of Ireland to Waterford.
There is so beating anything in this slow, but steady cruiser.
I'm heading more east road than north, bc I want to be on it's east side as it forms.
That way I can ride it's southerly winds north.
Otherwise, I'll be screwed if I get hit by strong NE winds.

I just asked him if he was woke up by radar or AIS alarms last night. Here is his reply...
I can't get by ais, thru coastal explorer, to do an audio alarm. Seems to be an issue with the monitors.
Radar, sort of, but I have the gain turned
I have the gain turned down to 2!
Otherwise, it alarms for wave tops every half hour.
That works pretty well.
I also run with my Hella driving lot on and the spreader lights.
I'm happy with it.if I ever have money again, I'd like to get a better radar.
Considering this Raymarine was new in 2006, it's like 1950's technology with a color screen.
They should be embarrassed.
o yes, I was woken up by false alarms.
In all my miles, I've never been woken by calarm that was valid.
Maybe I just have a knack for knowing when to sleep.
It will be interesting to see the affect of ais with the channel traffic.
That'll be fun. Seriously.

It’s Showtime
I just sent a msg with a Waterford City Center pub recommendation: The Three Shippes Pub in Waterford is not only one of my all time favorite pubs, it's an appropriate name! Told him if you walk in there and order a Guinness you'll know you are finally in Ireland!!!
His response? "That's why I'm going. The dock is near City Center." That's my kind of nautical adventure goal!!
Can't believe I'm texting with someone who's out in the middle of the Atlantic.

Asked Richard how well he is sleeping, is there anything the forum can do and also told him he may get a new title here on the forum.
:-)
Actually I slept a total of 6 hours last night between 19 & 07 hrs.
I'm hair with that.
Also, this is the first 24 day I saw not another boat.
Name?
I think you guys should decide.
It's a nice gesture.
Send dvds.
I should have planned better.
At least I have food, but I miss Julie's Kimbop.

I asked Richard about sleep as well and about what RPM's he was running.
Rising crescent moon woke me. As all of a sudden I see an orange light dead ahead.
Seas have calmed a bit.
Large swell from the ne, but winds are light and bite backing to the sw.
I got good sleep, about 6 hours total.
I sleep on the pilot house bench facing forward, so anything like a light in front of me gets my heart going quick.
It's happened a bunch of times
Same rpms, but I won't go higher than 1600, as I did the second half, as I have less fuel reserve.
Passage making on a budget.

Good news just in from Dauntless!
Winds have backed around to SW.
I've pulled in birds, as I have a need for speed.
TRW 8nm N, & further out to NE thru SW

I could not do it. No way I could go to sleep with it running like that. Then of course ultimately I'd collapse into sleep and sleep for way too long and who knows what. Just not my make up to single hand like that.
As to the fuel and budget, he's going to require more fuel when he gets there so why not have it for this route? I'm guessing the cost was higher in the Azores but on another 100 gallons couldn't have been much more.
Ok, going to try not to worry about his sleep or his fuel. But my wife says I'll fail, that I'll still worry just because that's the way I am.

I was just looking at the surface, 500 MB, wind and wave charts at 24, 48 and 96 hours to see what Richards weather might look like.
There is a trof near where I think Dauntless is located. A series of what are supposed to be small lows will be moving to the ENE kinda following the first part of Richards course. At some point they will catch up with him, especially after he turns north. To the NW is a sorta big low that is supposed to dissipate but there is another trof near it that is supposed to grow into a gale that will hit Ireland in 4-5 days.
The winds and the waves are supposed to eventually be from the SW/SSW as time goes one but especially as he gets closer to Ireland.
The low to the west of Ireland needs watching and I guess he will arrive after the low/gale has moved over or to the east of Ireland.
Later,
Dan

Dannc,
I asked Richard if he wanted your info. he said "Yes. That would be useful".
Can you send him a message through the message on Delorme? you can only send 160 characters but you can send multiple messages. No charges to him or you. If you can't I can cut and paste you info in your message.
