I’m looking forward to seeing more info about the new 38’ Coot and I very much hope someone builds a Puffin soon.

I know there are a lot of variables and options, but on SHM’s current listings it appears they around the same price. Given the sizable difference in beam, draft and displacement, I’m curious as to scenarios where the Coot would be preferred over the Puffin for the money.

Certainly the S-cape (non sedan) model of the Puffin one could safely cross an ocean in. The Sedan version has comparable legs though SHM and GB don’t recommend them as ocean crossers. But that Sedan I would presume has a lot more living space than the Coot, no?

So assuming the 38 Coot has some more living space than the previous 35 Coot, has a shallower draft, puts one closer to the water (fishing?)... It would be better on the Great Loop than a Puffin. Maybe gunk holing in the Caribbean it would be better? Inside Passage I’d say a Puffin Sedan, no?

To each their own, just curious what some thoughts are on this. Again, looking forward to more info on the enlarged Coot and hope to see a Puffin shove off from the SHM dock soon!
