Transoceanic Antifouling Paint

Good Morning... Has anyone onboard had experience with Transoceanic bottom paint? Their Oprima line is cuprous 57% by volume. Price is much cheaper than the normal paints available. Just happened across it for the first time today. Hve looked at the data sheets online but not much success finding user surveys or reviews. Thanks

Well, right off the bat it is "Transocean Optima." Getting the name right makes it a little easier to search for info.

The Optima line appears to be a sloughing product. This type of paint employs an uncontrolled release of biocide to retard fouling and is amongst the shortest-lived, most-polluting paints you can use.

fstbttms just gave you very relevant information. There are many antifouling paints with wide use and excellent reputations. Going to something like Transocean Optima to save a little money seems like a serious gamble and likely a mistake to me. It's definitely a shorter life paint, by design, so unless you intent to paint annually regardless of the paint, it's not going to save you. If your plan is to paint the bottom annually, then getting a less expensive, shorter life paint might make sense.
