I bought one of these:

Does this completely replace both prop nuts? Do you still use a cotter pin? I had put on a shaft zinc between the prop and the cutlass bearing but there is very little space there. I want to be able to remove my flexible coupling, move the shaft forward and mate the flanges together to check alignment in the water. I can't do that with the shaft zinc in place.

I put one on my boat last year. Kept the little nut and used a cotter pin as well.

It designed to replace both nuts and yes, a cotter pin is required.

Yes, those were the instructions. But I found that on my 1.5" shaft the thread was a bit long for the anode cage so I couldn't get proper torque and still pin it. I added in the little nut essentially to act as a spacer.
