Mixing small amounts of epoxy

The small liquid medicine “dosing cups” are excellent for mixing small amounts of epoxy (Silvertip “A” and “B”). Available for free if you have a kind pharmacist.

Also useful for measuring fuel additives for outboards.

Also stick with the 2 to 1 mix ratio epoxies like System 3, the 5 to 1 ratio like West System are hard to measure in small quantities.

Not necessary for less than perfect specs, but sometimes the recommended way is to go by weight... a kitchen or mail scale is often used.

I have been using a west system epoxy. G-Flex 655 thickened expo y. It comes in two tubes with 50/50!eye ball mix. It is very handy as you can mix very small amounts for example to insert one or several bungs into a teak deck.

Scales for big batch

Small batch I use cheap disposable plastic cups and draw measured lines on with marking pen.
Use medicine cup filled with water, poured into disposable cup to get levels
Mark X 50 at a time

And if you can't scam some free ones, the Dixie bathroom cups work too.

Empty Purell or liquid hand soap bottles squirt about 1/8 ounce. You just have to remember to count out whatever the ratio is. I used to work in a health facility, we were going through about 10 sanitizer bottles a week. I took some home, cleaned them out with alcohol and filled with resin and hardener.

I use different pump sets for west system. I have the gallon kit for bigger jobs with the slower hardener, and the quart kit with fast hardener for small stuff. The small kit makes a pretty small batch.
I use pumps for the system three as well, but usually only in big batches for laminating.

Remember, sticking unused mixed resin in the freezer stops the set. Fix what got screwed up, & you have a second chance. Or, use the extra elsewhere
