This is very specific question on my Caterpillar engines. My vessel is a Cruisers 38.5 and I have two Caterpillar 3116TA diesel engines. My starboard engine temperature gauge was inop, so I purchased a new one and installed it. Still didn't work, so now I am thinking that it is the temperature senor on the engine that is not working or the wiring to it (God forbid) is cut or broken somewhere. Would anyone on here know in what general area that i could locate this sensor?

I was hoping someone else would take this one, since I haven't had eyes on a 3116TA for a while.

But, by memory, the most common location is on the bottom of the thermostat housing, just below the hose elbow. I think the other place that it might be is on the side of the engine, on the service side, about midway height wise and about midway width wise.
