Greeting to all:
I have braided line running to my outriggers; a portion of it has become hard and stiff. Can it be reconditioned and how, if so? I remember some discussion on this awhile back but couldn't find it in a search. Seems like someone said to soak it in water and soap overnight. Thanks.

When we had the sailboat, all the running rigging would get hard. I just washed them in soapy water and rinsed with fabric softener in the washing machine. When done they were soft and easy on the hands. Take off any metal ends or just wrap them in cloth with rubber bands to protect the machine or the Admiral will be upset.

We'll second the washing in water with fabric softener. Works great.

I have found that with nice, tight lines, the time in the washing machine isn't long enough for a good soak so I put them in a plastic tub for several hours or more.

Otherwise, I agree, a wash and rinse with fabric softener. NO BLEACH!

Thanks for all of the advice, the lines are now soaking in soapy water and fabric softener. Will rinse this evening and see how it worked out.
Mike
