I plan on removing my teak window frames. They all need rebedding/rebuilding on my ‘82 Albin 40. I do not like the square window frame look. I’d like to give them a good modern look with the curved corners. Does anyone have any experience on doing the frameless windows? Seems like less chances of leakage. I plan on removing the frames then fairing in new fiberglass. Then basically use 1/2” acrylic glass and seal them from the inside with a good adhesive/sealant with no framing at all. Ideas? Opinions? I don’t want more exterior teak or aluminum.

Ours has radius-corner frameless windows for exterior safety glass. The construction method was to create the exterior side in fiberglass and the interior side to accept the glass in a fitted aperture. Glass is held tight to exterior facing with substantial wood trim pieces in the interior. The glazing is finished with caulking around exterior edges. This method provides a straightforward way of replacing glass as needed in future.

Lou's post is a good one! I have used this approach on three different boat with one going on 10 years of service and no leaks and look like they were just installed. The only thing I would add that wasn't mentioned in the video is not to fit the glass tight in the frame. Especially if you are using polycarbonate and it is tinted, it needs room to expand and contract. In this case more is better for the caulk to move with the glass. The VHB tape has some foam type properties to allow movement but the caulking will fail if you don't provide enough gap, 5/16" to 3/8" is best. You won't be disappointed with this installation process, very clean and very durable!

I had my windows replaced 2 years ago with the outside mounted frameless style. It came out really well, I unfortunately don’t remember which adhesive he used. The only down side was I needed to them have all new interior teak frames made which ended up costing much more than the windows/install but really changed the look of the boat and I’m fairly confident will not be a leak issue again.

Found some photos, unfortunately I don’t have any before ones.
