Cleaning zincs?

I have a 28' trailer trawler which spends most of it's time on it's trailer. Zincs are readily accessible. Does anyone clean their zincs to expose clean metal? Good/bad, waste of time?

A hand powered wire bush is enough to expose “new” zinc. If the zinc is approaching 1/2 gone, replace the zinc.
The diver’s zinc was at least 10 years old..... still almost all there. I had ALL zinc replaced the last time the boat was hauled. The bow and stern thruster zinc were still good but had them replaced because it was convenient.

Any anode that lasts that long is an anode that is not doing its job.

Agreed. Something wrong there. Unless in fresh water. Even then my hull zinc went to 50% in three years of mainly fresh water.

Zinc anodes in freshwater will not provide protection and therefore will not deplete.
