CHB Port Window Seals

I have five of these bronze port windows in our CHB; the black gasket no longer seals well - it's hard as a rock. Anyone have suggestions on where to source or make replacements?

Any tips on removing the old stuff efficiently, adhesives, etc. would also be appreciated from the TF brain trust!

A narrow flat blade screw driver will remove the old rubber and the goop that
held it in place over the years.

Real port light rubber is usually square with a hollow center to allow the port to seal, even if the unit is no longer flat.

Install the new rubber with out pulling on it or stretching it as it can shrink back and leak, the seam is at the top.

I found this 7/32" thick D-profile adhesive-backed gasket material at McMaster-Carr & went ahead and ordered 50' of it for $40.

I picked a relatively low profile as the existing gaskets are pretty thin (maybe 1/8); I'll try doing one and see how well it seals. The seal mfg recommended no more than 40% compression so I was worried my ports wouldn't close if I used something as thick as the above (7/16").

Some of the better built ports have screws in the top hinge that allow the hinge to be adjusted in or out, as the rubber gets old.

Once I dug out the old gasket material it was clear that it was thicker than I had expected, so I ended up using a bigger D-profile material (3/16" ID: https://www.mcmaster.com/93085K11/ )


It appears to be perfect - keep in mind I'm in SoCal in a drought so no real opportunity to test yet.
