Bromine Tablets?

I know chlorine tablets will eat metal and plastic. I have heard that bromine tablets will keep your bilge water clear and smelling nice without hard to your bilge pumps and float switches. Is this true?

Don't know about bilge water. Some here have advocated a bromine tablet in your A/C's strainer to keep fouling down. Apparently bromine tablets are less corrosive in that application than chlorine tablets.
