What are the teak “rungs” called on the stays holding up the mast on a motor yacht such as a Marine Trader 34 mast? Other than climbing up the mast to change the anchor light bulb what is their use for? :hide::socool:

Ratlines are useful if you want to look like a pirate. :pirate:

Ratlines are usually made from rope, the wooden ones are sometimes called ratboards.

Actually, I'm considering them myself. Besides being useful for climbing the mast, they are a safety barrier on either side of the mast - handy when I'm raising/dropping sails in rough water.
A pin rail (similar board but used for tying off halyards) would also be cool. :socool:

Welcome aboard. Ratlines or ratboards or rungs works for me...

having a lookout standing high up is useful for improving bottom visibility when navigating in shallow but clear water and fishing

Perhaps nitpicking but “stays” run fore and aft while “shrouds” run to the sides and might have ratlines or boards...
