Surprised to see Home Depot advertising this brand of 12/24 VDC Danfoss residential appliances marketed towards the solar crowd.

However it seems that their power consumption is no better than the typical residential 110V appliances - I compared against Frigidaire, Magic Chef, Hisense.

The price is 5x higher! ($1600 versus $300).

So although I can see the attraction of using DC appliances and not needing a PSW inverter with it 12% power loss, honestly I don't see ever buying a unit like this. A 1kW PSW inverter is not that expensive to buy.

Am I missing something here?

They may not be more efficient than some of the high efficiency 120v stuff, but as you pointed out, ditching the inverter is often a 10% or more gain depending on the rest of your setup. I'm sure the price is higher partly due to lower sales volume, but at the same time, the most efficient 120v stuff you can get isn't $300 either.
