Hi all,

I have MTU183 and ZF gearbox on it, i having trouble with my port gearbox, the gearbox is heating up more compare to the other one. The temperature is approx 85degrees @ 1800rpm/30mins compare to the other is only 40degrees.

I have clean the oil cooler and change oil, but no improvement. After thorough checking, i found the temperature of seawater from main engine heat exchanger around 80degrees (high) and its should be 30degrees as per ZF manual and the stbd side is run at normal temperature.

I dismantle and clean the main engine plate heat exchanger (not much dirt & no blockage).

I'm confuse and i need help here. Hope anyone can really help my in this.

Thank you.

Use any IR temp gun and see if you can find were the water temp rises as you meter from the raw water pump inlet to the the outlet.

And of course the best place to ask this question on boatdiesel.com.

How is the water flow? You may be pumping enough water to cool the engine but not enough to cool the gear box too.
