Heartfelt condolences to you both. Having been taken care of by dogs my entire life, I really know the sadness you feel.

So sorry for your loss. When we lost ours I was googling about where/how to bury a loved dog - and found this:

"There is one best place to bury a dog.
If you bury him in this spot, he will
come to you when you call - come to you
over the grim, dim frontier of death,
and down the well-remembered path,
and to your side again.

"And though you call a dozen living
dogs to heel, they shall not growl at
him, nor resent his coming,
for he belongs there.

"People may scoff at you, who see
no lightest blade of grass bent by his
footfall, who hear no whimper, people
who may never really have had a dog.
Smile at them, for you shall know
something that is hidden from them,
and which is well worth the knowing.

"The one best place to bury a good
dog is in the heart of his master

I`m hearing the Tom T Hall song" Old Dogs and Children, and Watermelon Wine". There is something so vulnerable, and gentle, about old dogs. I petted one yesterday at the supermarket,so gentle and trusting.I pet others dogs,I cannot yet go again after the last one.Your grief will get easier, but never quite go away.

Our deepest regrets on the passing of your four legged crew members. We lost the last of our two Westies last November and I swore I would never get another dog again because it hurts too much when they pass on. As fate would have it, in January two new Westie pups joined our crew and truly our life is complete once more. May you find comfort in the memories of a life together and know there was never a shortage of love on board.

This has been on our refrigerator for years. If we were dogs, the world would be problem free.

It is said that a dog’s life is considered successful when the owner(s) return the love and joy by getting another dog in need of a loving in home.
