Where should we register our boat? FL? GA? SC? NC?

Purchased our boat in FL last Dec. You are right about FL sales tax ...6% capped at $18,000. Broker got us. 90 day permit which could be renewed for a another 90 days. Move the boat to SC our home state and paid $500 for sales tax. SC property taxes can be a heavy hit.

I might go this route, especially if I can have up to 6 months to get it out of FL.

The way I’m reading the SC laws, it says if the boat spends more than 180 days in SC, it must be registered (I’d have to anyway to avoid FL). Only 10.5% of the boats value is taxed. This works out to be about 1.2% of the boats value.

I think that’s the way to go. Can you tell me more about getting the 90 day temp registration for FL?

Does the broker have to get me the temp registration for Florida or is that something I do?
