That's some very fine work you've done. I got exhausted just looking at the pictures. The owner of the boatyard I use on Chesapeake Bay has been replanking his Chesapeake Round Stern work boat. The boat has a bit of a fantail and a planing board. Too many angles and curves to wrap my head around. The guy is truly a craftsman with incredible patience. I look at his progress every time I'm there and can truly appreciate what you're completed in a relatively short time, for a person who hasn't done this for 40 years.

Thank you very much! I spend most of my time with thoughts and ideas flying around my head as to how to install every following piece, because you're right, it's a lot to wrap your head around

More progress lately. All but 4 planks (two each side) are glued in, cleat block glued and fastened, all the decks are up and foam cut out in Preparation for water tanks, rudder block glued and fastened and all the chine double planks are glued.

Should be receiving the transom from Abernathy & Gaudin this week. It will be 4 layers of ⅜" meranti plywood. Overall dimensions upon delivery will be 4'x10.5'x1.5" following a curve of 6" over 10'. Had a backing nut made for the rudder gland. Had an incident last year where it backed off and in turn pulled the rudder up with it, until it contacted the hull. No more! Gonna have a tight, nicely sealing, adjustable packing again!IMG_20210128_170125.jpeg

Moved onto the inner hull, gunnel, and cleat mounts as well as some small patches on rot repair. And best of all, the world's smallest whiskey plank!

Westcaper looking fantastic - in the water by Easter?
 
Had to post pone glassing the decks this week so carrier on with the swim grid dryfit. Installed a sapele mahogany wedge block for the swim grid to mount to. The curve was out by an 1/8th and the rake was greater than my transom so the block was cut to fit those deviations. It was fastened and epoxied on and faired in. The grid mounts with 10x 3/8" thru bolts and 5 brackets even though the picture only shows 3...(had a welder add two extra lugs today and didn't get a picture)

Wow!! Great job!!

I bet you were probably tempted to go with a varnished transom, I think I would have been tempted. So glad you did not take that route. Varnished transoms are beautiful but only for a short time then the annual upkeep will eat you alive.

Ya definitely, having that much brightwork is a no for me. I'm trying reduce my amount, not grow it! [emoji16]

And we launched this past Sunday! Had group of family and friends come out for drinks to celebrate the end of this long project.

Went off without a hitch, got her fired up and went and dropped the hook for the night at Portland island.

It's good to be back.

Certainly lighter in the aft end which resulted in a more level ride at full rpm, digging far less of a hole. Also may have picked up close to a knot at full speed, and about a half knot at cruise.

Thrilled with the results of the project
