Hello, I bought a West Marine 275 Al.
9’ RIB with aluminum hull and floor plate.
The RIB is rated for a max 10 hp so thats what I am looking for. I can’t find specs as to a short or long shaft engine requirement. Can anyone help me on how to determine short or long?
Thanks.

I have a west marine 310 and have a short shaft 15’ hp.

Thank you!

Long shafts are used more on sailboats. First Merc 9.9 I bought was long shaft for my Catalina 27 sailboat. The second Merc 9.9 was for my 9 1/2 foot RIB, short shaft.

Short shaft = 15" transom height
Long Shaft = 20" transom height.
Extra Long Shaft = 25" transom height
And yes there is a 30" shaft on huge center console boats.

Just measure from the top of the transom cutout on centerline to the bottom of the boat.
