I know of no ASA Marine appraisers who are not primarily surveyors. I do not know who the surveyor for this job is, so cannot comment on his qualifications to do the appraisal part.
What I did object to was the characterizations of surveyors as not qualified to do appraisals. Many are very qualified. Those that appraise do in fact also survey.

The best news? Our wedding plans are intact! David and I are getting married in May. We call each other hubby and wife but we’re not technically married yet.
We are getting married at a cute little restaurant on the river. Our plan is to have our boat docked at the wall and leave on it after the wedding for a honeymoon trip!

I don't trust them assessors. They assessed a boat of mine at the same value I paid for it brand-new eight years earlier in a divorce settlement (lived with it)! Automobiles and boats depreciate while real estate can grow in value ten-fold within some years or so. Not so boats.
