Volvo update and photos for a 1987 35 Ponderosa aft cabin motoryacht.

Volvo Penta TMD31A, twins. 8 knot cruise, 14 tops!. Stern thruster. About 1074 hours on each volvo

Hi all, Brian here in Seattle. Here's some updated photos of those Volvos twins, (that might NOT be twins)? I see the boat on Wednesday.

One photo with the red tubing cord is the way they look now. The other is what they looked like 5 years ago.

Can anyone see any valuable updates on the engine, repairs?

I assume the things sticking off the boat by the propeller are stern thrusters, (installed 2017). They come with a remote. They look odd to me.

Other things I don't know squat about: are any of these things good?

Webasto furnace, kerosene fired, plus at-dock electric built in heater.
2019 hot water tank. Both toilets have been rebuilt (one an electric,
one manual)

2017 Garmin chartplotter, 18" radar screen, 2017 autopilot, inverter
(converts 110 into 12VDC), anchor windlass.

Thank you again! Brian

Why 2 threads? One is better for responses than 2, you could ask a Mod to combine them, click the triangle in the left lower corner of your new post and ask, if you want.
ER could have been kept clean for 5 years. Best eyeball the engines, with someone who knows boats/engines. The other things you mention sound ok. New HW is good. So is stern thruster. Is there a bow thruster? Rebuilt toilets are good, heat is good, instruments not too old...hang with it, could be ok.

Thanks sorry about the repetitive threads.

No bowel thruster.

It has a 2017 stern thruster, with controls at upper and lower stations, plus a remote control.

What's better a bowel or stern thruster? Why would you need or want a remote?

Something funny. My neigbhood in Seattle is called, "pill hill" because of all the Hospitals. When they did a breakdown of what neighborhoods had what kind of cars, mine had Volvos, (everywhere else Subaru's). Why because Drs needed cars that would start.

Here Volvos make the worst boat engines. Go figure!

No bowel thruster has this

A "bowel thruster" has little to do with boating :), purely coincidental on a boat. A bow thruster is located at the bow, usually built in rather than bolted on like the stern one. The idea of thrusters is to move that end of the boat sideways or help rotate the boat. Views differ which is better, both would be good. A remote can hang around your neck and you could use it without having to be at the helm( but why). A joystick type "Yacht Controller" may integrate engines and thrusters in one remote to be used anywhere.
If you have a link to a listing and don`t think someone will slip in and buy it under you, you could post it for more comment. It`s all sounding kind of ok, but take someone who knows boats with you.
TF has Volvo haters. Are Volvos now built in China?

I thought that thing hanging off the boat by the propeller was the remote thruster? Also has controls both wheelhouses. I was told it's a 2017. See photo.

What's something like that cost installed?
