We have a 3208 caterpillar engines 375 hp, with twin dic transmission but we do not know the model. Boat is 30 years old, can’t read the label.
I have to either rebuilt or replace it
I am also looking for someone who can do the work

Thank you

Look in Boats and Harbors magazine , on line.

The TD are very common in commercial craft and easy to get rebuilt , if its needed.

Take your Cat engine number (01Zxxxxxx) to a Cat dealer and see if they can look up the original build sheets. The are pretty good about keeping those records. May include the TD model. Some Cat engines came with TD gears with Cat numbers on them, that might make it easier.

Good chance it is a MG507 series, but there are some variations.

Get a kid with really good eyes to read the tag.

What is wrong with the gear? Not all problems require a rebuild or replacement.

Ski,
Thank you, I can get into neutral, and no power in reverse. Believe it to be MG507 TD

Great idea!

I have 1988 CAT 3208 T/A 375hp.

Trannies are MG-507 or MG-5071

The owner manual p/n is 1015836

Now that I have the make of the transmission, I need someone in Florida who can remove it and repair it.

Please any help.
Thank you

So it works in fwd, but not reverse?

Do you have helm pressure gauges for gear oil pressure? What is the reading F-N-R

Yes there are gauges. But if I start the engines it will be in gear. I’m tried to the dock, so it would be difficult
Thanks

So if you start the engine in neutral, it is instantly in gear?

With engine off (!!!) can you roll prop shaft by hand?

What happens if you go to reverse after engine starts? Get reverse then or does engine stall?

Does the shift lever on the gear move as it should with helm control motion?

You mention engines in plural. Both engines doing this?

Only the port engine.
I have try what you are have suggested.
I think a finally have a company coming next week to long at it.
I’ll let you know how it goes
Thank you

Do you happen to have ZF Mathers Microcommander electronic shifter/throttles? One symptom of low voltage to them is that they go into reverse when the shifter is in neutral. Would be nice if the issue was just an electrical problem...
