I'd just take the boat out and practice, taking it slow, playing with the boat's stuff. Worked for me.

Worked for me too but....

- I had 55 years of sailboat experience, 30 years of experience with boats over 30’.
- I went from a single engine to single engine.
- I’m cheap
- I’m also delusional if I think that my skills are as good as they would be if I had training by a good instructor.

Hi John,

Gorgeous boat, a little ship!! Lots of luck and smooth sailings always!

We got "on-the-job" training. We hired a (very good) delivery captain to help 3 of us (myself, wife and friend) bring our new-to-us Selene 47 from Lauderdale to Rhode island in bee line 100-150 miles off shore. 6 days of non-stop 24 hour/day cruising, learning navigation, ship's systems, instrumentation, and acquiring the confidence to do the long legs and night cruising. We did a bit of the close handling before setting off but the delivery was great. Rates were about $350/day plus food and transport. No alcohol until we tied up in RI!!
