A "canned air" horn is good at attracting people's attention and you can aim it at the offender.

Pointing a gun and shooting blanks at someone could cause a problem.

I carry a ready access canned air horn in my truck.


If you want attention on the road or at a stop light when someone's texting on their phone... That horn really works!


Have one on each boat if needed above and beyond or for inclusion with standard, also loud boat horn.

I had the same problem, except it was the coast guard auxiliary and they then decided to stop and patrol/escort and proceeded to repeat the violation multiple times and would not answer their radio, even though I could hear my own voice on their radio across the short distance. This is why I permanently hate the CGA btw, that org should not exist.

The acts of stupidity here are not education related...they are brain function related. Some people are just not wired to ask themselves: "What could go wrong here?" You've seen guys show up at meetings without a pen, hikers that don't have a flashlight, people in line at the checkout counter that forgot their wallet, people that try to buy plywood the day of the hurricane, etc.....my favorite is guys who pull their boats up on the beach.....spend all day 50 feet away from their boat....and not realize the tide went out and they are stuck. No amount of education will help these people.

While I don't "hate" the CGA, they are a solution for a non problem and not cost effective at all. They run around checking registration and lights out during the day and think they are solving problems.

Their search and rescue has value.

However their education programs and classes are good.

Perhaps but our starting cannon is about a foot long , lashed to the deck , hard to think it was pointed at anyone.

The sound however is far louder than a shotgun ,( black powder starting blanks ), and does seem to be heard even by fools.

Things always can be twisted into a bad idea if one tries hard enough.

Yea, a cannon makes a loud noise, but the "offender" may not associate it with your dissatisfaction with his behavior. Same with your built in boat horn.

You can point the canned air horn directly at the offender. That makes it pretty obvious.

Usually only the waving and yelling AFTER the cannon, boat horn, hailer, or CANNED HORN lets them know who you are dissatisfied with, not the initial noise.

I live on a busy stretch of the ICW and a fuel dock where the workers use all the above but a cannon to slow traffic.
