Can't speak to that very well with no further info.

Your Yanmar manual will tell you minimum cranking amps recommended.

You might have charging considerations, especially if your starting battery and house batteries share a charger: bulk/absorption and float voltage selection, type, size (capacity), etc.

You might also have physical considerations: easy vs. difficult to service, off-gassing implications, etc.

I used a Group 31 on my 6LY STP of 800+ CCA. Worked fine.

Another thread said that Yanmar called for 120 Ah for the starting battery for 6LP or 6LY, can’t remember, which is wierd. Only CCA or MCA should matter.

I have a pair of Odyssey AGM GP 34s (around 800 CCA each) in parallel as a starting bank for my 6LPA-STP. Can't pull my finger off the starting rocker switch fast enough!
