I have no clue, I was too much of a chicken to poke at it with a boat hook. It was hard to see as the waves were distorting what was underneath, but it looked like part of a whale.

Maybe leftover gutted fish. Here they catch these big Cobia, cut off the meat and throw head with guts attached into the water. These rotting fish corpses float all over being eaten by minnows and crabs, and are real unsightly. I have seen them with their guts floating high and bodies underneath.

It was a pretty good size and looked like the fins of a whale and a partial body. If I new how to attach a video you can see the body portion a little better.
