Wife & I are looking to rent a trawler 32 - 45ft for a week. This is a test to determine if we would enjoy a purchase to do the great loop. "I" have 50 years of power/sailing experience on both coasts, including the north Pacific so I know hardship sailing - although I was then a young man. This is more of a test to see if she would really enjoy the experience.
The boat handling skills are not that big of an issue as we owned an 28 ft express cruiser for 10 years in the Calif Delta (easy water). Have also rented many week long houseboat gigs on Nor Cal big lakes.(really easy water)

We just want to test the experience to see how much we enjoy activity as we love to travel, and do it well together.
We have attended an AGLCA intro event in Annapolis and see that as a great adventure. Just want to be cautious before shelling our for another big boat purchase and then discover it's not going to fit expectations.

Looking to rent for a week or so, from a source location between FLA up to the Chesapeake.

Can you share ideas on who to contact to rent a boat?
Thanks Don

There are places in Florida that rent the particular boats that you are looking for.
Do a google search. BOATBVI....

The two main charterers of trawler style boats are SWFL Yachts as noted above and Anacortes yacht Charters. AYC has a tremendous selection, some 50 power boats. SWFLY has a more limited selection, about 6 power boats.

Both are in nice cruising areas that can keep you happy for a week or two, maybe more in the San Juans and environs.

We rented "Sandollars", a Mainship 390 Trawler in Mar18. It is listed with sailingflorida.com/st-petersburg. The boat was in good condition and the private owner was very helpful. We cruised a week, heading south to the Manatee River anchorage, Longboat Key Marina and Marina Jack (mooring ball) in Sarasota - getting to try all 3 overnight accommodations options. I had sailed for 30 years but the girlfriend was new to boats. She loved it - especially anchoring!! (That's when I knew I had a keeper...). We bought our Great Harbour 37 in Aug18 and are having a blast. David
